3. Opportunities to Appreciate Art at the Local Level
(1) Travelling Arts Festival
The Travelling Arts Festival has been carried out since 1964, and takes place during the spring (May - July) and autumn (September - December).Its aims are to provide local communities in various parts of Japan with opportunities to view excellent performing arts in local communities and thus to contribute to the improvement of the level of local artistic and cultural activities. Although the festival is carried out concentrated in a few prefectures, it also conducts touring programs which feature excellent, performing art to various parts of Japan. In 1992, 130 performances were shown in 11 categories, including orchestra and opera. 110 performances in11 categories are scheduled for 1993.
