Chapter 10 Information Oriented Society and the Role of Education
4 Training of Information Engineers

Since our society is progressively becoming information oriented, the training of experts who will play a leading role in the future as society becomes increasingly information oriented has become a very important issue.

In upper secondary schools, courses related to information, such as "information technology" courses and "information processing" courses have been rapidly increasing in recent years.

Also, in the case of higher education, in order to train expert information engineers and researchers who can support the demands of an information oriented society, there has been an expansion of departments and courses of information and computer science etc., at universities and colleges of technology, as well as increases in the number of information science and related courses and the number of places for entrants to these courses at junior colleges and special training colleges (post-secondary courses).

In order to provide a high level of information processing education and promote "refresh education" for information engineers, the Ministry is also carrying out surveys and other measures regarding the expansion of graduate level departments and courses of information science and related fields, and the curriculum for information processing education.
