(2) Quantitative Status of Technical Colleges
Quantitative Status of Technical Colleges


Technical colleges are 5 year institutions (five years and six months in the Mercantile Technical Colleges) providing technical education to lower secondary school graduates or the equivalents. Industrial Technical Colleges were established in 1962, to meet the quantitative and qualitative shortage of technicians caused by technological developments. In 1967, Mercantile Technical Colleges were set up to train seamen with high level knowledge and skills to meet the recent remarkable developments and modernization of marine transportation in our country.

Trends in enrollment and in the number of colleges are as shown in Table 15.
