(1) Quantitative Status of Universities and Junior Colleges
d. Proportion of Female Students


The number of female students in universities and junior colleges reached 460,000 in 1969. This is 3.6 times that in 1959. In universities, the total was 240,000, 3 times that in 1959. In junior colleges, it was 220,000 or 4 times the1959 total. This high rate or increase in the number or female students presents a striking contrast to the comparatively now rate or increase for mane students.

With this increase in the number of female students, the proportion of female students increased from 19% in 1959 to 29% in 1969. The proportion was 18%inuniversities and 82% in junior colleges.

The distribution of female students, by faculty or department is as shown in Table 11.
