Japanese Cooperation for EFA through UNESCO

 Japan has been actively cooperating toward the achievement of EFA in a variety of forms such as contributions to other UN agencies by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs as well as efforts by international cooperation agencies in Japan like JICA (Japan International Cooperation Agency) and NGOs.

(1) Japanese Funds-in-Trust for Education for All

 Japan has been contributing to UNESCO in the form of Funds-in-Trust since 1996.

  • Japanese Funds-in-Trust for Literacy Education (US$6,865,000 1990-2001)
  • Japanese Funds-in-Trust for Community Learning Centers (US$1,385,000 1996-2001)
  • Japanese Funds-in-Trust for Education for All (2002- )

 These contributions are mainly used for programmes and projects initiated by the UNESCO Bangkok Office.
