Japanese Cooperation in the field of Education

 Japan contributes to international cooperation for education mainly in the Asia-Pacific region with our major partner, UNESCO Asia-Pacific Regional Bureau for Education.
 Japan not only contributes financially in the form of Japanese Funds-in-Trust, but also actively cooperates in building strong ties by dispatching experts to various projects, international conferences, etc.

1.EFA

Japanese Funds-in-Trust for Education for All, contributed by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, supports the dissemination of literacy and primary education for adult illiterates in the Asia-Pacific region. There are about 520 million adult illiterates in the Asia-Pacific region, accounting for a 70% share of the world illiterates.

2.ESD

Japanese Funds-in-Trust for Education for Sustainable Development, contributed by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology supports the dissemination and development of “Decade of Education for Sustainable Development (DESD),” which began in 2005, after being proposed at both the World Summit on Sustainable Development (WSSD) , held in Johannesburg, and at the UN General Assembly in 2002.

3.Cooperation for Educational Development

 Japan cooperates for educational development of the Asia-Pacific region in the following areas.
 - Secondary and Higher Education
 - Vocational Training and Teachers’ Education
 - Peace Education and Education for Understanding Different Values and Cultures
 - ICT Education
 - Science and Technology Education
 - Health Education
 - Environmental Education

5.HIV/AIDS Education

 Japanese Funds-in-Trust for Education for HIV/AIDS Education, contributed by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology supports the development of Education for HIV/AIDS prevention.

6.ICT Education

- Japan provides and supports ICT training for teachers in the Asia-Pacific region.
