MEXT issues the “White Paper on Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology” annually in order to broadly introduce the general public to the new achievements in measures concerning education, science and technology, sports, and culture. The latest FY2011 will soon be released.
The FY2011 White Paper is comprised of two parts: (1) Feature report on the restoration and revival from the Great East Japan Earthquake - creative revival starting from educating people, (2) Annual report on the comprehensive achievements in MEXT policies concerning education, science and technology, sports, and culture.
The article examines: the overall conditions of damages caused by the earthquake, emergency response at the time of the earthquake, restoration and revival measures being taken, correspondence to the Fukushima No.1 nuclear accident, proposals of future measures to be taken during a disaster particularly drawing from lessons learnt from 3.11. The report is generally comprised of columns featuring case studies on the reconstructive efforts being implemented by various parties in the disaster-hit areas.

The FY2011 MEXT White Paper in Japanese is scheduled to be released sometime in early-mid July 2012. The FY2011 White Paper in English is scheduled to be released by the end of FY2012.
