MEXT’s plan on the Promotion of School Safety based on the School Health and Safety Act has been drawn up in April and approved by the Cabinet on April 27th.
The plan on the Promotion of School Safety includes the comprehensive and effective implementation of school safety measures administered by every school, reflecting on the lessons learn upon facing disasters including the schools’ experiences from the Great East Japan Earthquake. In order to strengthen disaster safety measures which also considers the safety of households, transportation and disaster prevention education, MEXT’s plan provides detailed measures stipulating the need for the nation to provide people with adequate education on safety, as well as the necessity to promote school safety which considers the coordinated cooperation by households and the local community.
The Plan to Promote School Safety is roughly a five year scheme to be implemented between 2012- 2016. It stipulates the plan’s basic direction, as well as the specific measures to be taken by schools in order to promote school safety.
