The video, featuring the Japanese education system, related to the OECD/PISA initiative “Strong Performers and Successful Reformers in Education”

OECD has produced a video series titled “Strong Performers and Successful Reformers in Education” profiling policies and practices of education  systems that demonstrate high or improving performance in the PISA tests. Japan has also been selected as one such model. 

This video highlights Japanese education system in which students have been educated  to think independently in confronting the various challenges of modern society. The video shows teachers taking a central role in Japanese system, especially in response to and in the process of reconstruction from the Great East Earthquake. Examples of activities on Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) are also introduced.
