MEXT has undergone a sampling investigation to confirm the number of enrolled international students living within commuting distance of their schools, (in universities and vocational schools) presently remaining near their school campuses.
This is to notify that MEXT has undergone a sampling investigation to confirm
the
number of enrolled international students living within commuting distance of
their schools, (in universities and vocational schools) presently remaining
near their school campuses.
The results are as per following attachments.
【Universities】
According to the results from the previous investigation
conducted on April 20, 2011, due to the decision by many universities in the
Tohoku region to delay the commencement of classes by one month until May, 86.6%
of the international students nationwide were found remaining on their school
campus, whereas 35.1% remained in the Tohoku region.
The current investigation
respectively found 96.0% students in total nationwide remaining in commuting
distance from their universities, and 86.5% of the international students remaining
in the Tohoku region.
【Specialized Training Colleges】
Results from the recent investigation
(conducted on May 20, 2011) have confirmed that 98.3% of international students
nationwide remaining near their school campus, and 87.4% in the Tohoku region.
Furthermore, compared to the previous survey which investigated 70 schools,
the current investigation has increased the number of schools by twofold to
135 in order to obtain a higher accuracy of information (all schools from the
previous survey are included, making a simple comparison possible.)

Training Colleges were subject to this investigation, of which we received a
response from 71 schools(percentage of response: 81.6%)
