  Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology of Japan (MEXT) is working forward the humanitarian demining through promoting research and development into demining technology.
  On January 15^th, 2002, MEXT set up the "Committee of Experts on Humanitarian Demining Technology." (Chairperson: Dr. FURUTA Katsuhisa, Professor of Tokyo Denki University) This committee has examined various approaches to promote R&D in this field. On May 27^th, 2002, the committee presented the report, "Promoting R&D for Humanitarian Demining."
  MEXT is promoting the R&D of demining technologies according to the recommendations in this report.
