At its ordinary general assembly and board of directors meeting on
June 19, the Japan Atomic Industrial Forum (JAIF) nominated Mr. Jun'ichi
Nishizawa (73), dean of Iwate Prefectural University (former dean of
Tohoku University) as its chairman. In his speech afterwards, Nishizawa
stressed, "The role played by atomic energy as the fundamental energy
supporting Japan becomes more and more important, and therefore, we
should not avert it simply because of its hazards."
Mr. Nishizawa took the position of chairman of the "Advisory Committee
for the Fast Breeder Reactor" for discussing about how research and
development of fast breeder reactor should be. The new chairman took
his position on July 1. Former Chairman Takashi Mukaibo, who had the
position for eight years, became a special advisor.
