Moves by the Japanese Government
| Japan has released on July 29, 2003, “Suggestions for the International Implementation Plan UNESCO is formulating in connection with ‘The Decade of Education for Sustainable Development” from the Japanese National for UNESCO, whose secretariat is located in MEXT, as necessary items that ought to be included in the “International Implementation Plan.” |
| Moreover, a liaison conference of related ministries and agencies, whose membership is comprised of department head-class people from each ministry/agency, was established in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. So debates were carried out on matters such as the formulation of a “Domestic Implementation Plan” in Japan based on the aforementioned “International Implementation.” |
Furthermore, in order to advance ESD internationally, MEXT is scheduled to contribute about 200 million to UNESCO for the “UNESCO ESD Fund-in-Trust.” |
