Environmental Perspectives

   Aware of the influence of the fragility of resources and the natural environment along with human activities exerts on the environment, we have been reflecting interest in the environment in various social policies.

 
 Environmental Education
 
( Purpose)
   Along with continuing to recognize the importance of environmental education, we have been making it possible for learners to carry out new actions in order to protect resources.

   Further improvements in contents related to the environment in the New Courses of Study
 
 Further improvements in environment-related contents in each course
 In the “Period of Integrated Study,” it is possible to deepen integrated and interdisciplinary learning about environmental problems through experiential and problem-solving learning.

 In elementary school (6th grade) science:---the spirit of taking good care of the natural environment and the attitude of trying to build a better environment.
 In lower secondary schools social studies (the field of geography):---issues related to Japan’s environment/energy.
 In lower secondary schools science (the second field):---activities to survey the actually near and familiar natural environment.
 In upper secondary schools home economics:---Aiming for a lifestyle with few burdens on the environment and reconsidering one’s consciousness about living and manner of living.
 In the Period of Integrated Study (elementary, lower secondary and upper secondary schools):--- Integrated and interdisciplinary learning about environmental problems through experiential and problem-solving learning

 
 Green Plan Promoting Environmental Education
   With the cooperation and collaboration of the Ministry of the Environment, we have been promoting and disseminating outstanding practices concerned with environmental education and implementing training in environmental education, as well.

 
 Rich Experience Activity Model Program
   In order to nurture sociability and a rich humanity in schoolchildren, we have been carrying out diverse experiential activities, such as experience of social-service activities and experience of activity in natural environment, in accordance with the stage of growth.

 
 Eco-School Pilot Model Project
   In addition to promoting the construction of school facilities that take the environment into consideration, we also make use of the school facilities constructed thereby in environmental education.

 
 Preparation of Instruction Materials for Environmental Education
   We have been framing instruction materials for teachers in order for promoting environmental education which include actual examples not only of explanation and guidance about the content related to environmental education in the Courses of Study but also about the significance and role of environmental education in the schools.

 
 Collaboration among Ministries/Agencies, Projects Promoting Experiential-type Environmental Study
   In order to nurture a rich humanity in children, we have been promoting, in collaboration with related ministries and agencies, experiential environmental learning on the theme of the familiar regional environment through the actual implementation of projects where children plan on their own and conduct continuous experiential learning
