Other Tuition Support Programs

Tuition support for unexpected household income reduction

※Available for high school students enrolled from April 2014.

 The program provides financial support to households facing unexpected income reduction due to layoff, bankruptcy and other reasons. Subsidies equivalent to the amount of High School Tuition Support Fund are provided until the change in income is reflected in the amount of allowance provided under the tuition support fund.
 Requirement and procedure are different, depending on the prefecture. For further details, please contact the school or the prefectural office where the school located.

Support for Students who Learn in High School Again

※Available for high school students enrolled from April 2014.

 The program provides tuition support for students who dropped out of high school. Tuition support for the students will be provided until graduation (2 years in maximum), adding to 36 months (48 months for part-time and correspondence students) of High School Tuition Support Fund.

Support for Studying at Overseas Educational Institutions

※Available for high school students enrolled from April 2014.

 Tuition support equivalent to the amount of High School Tuition Support Fund are provided to students attending Japanese schools overseas that the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology approves as providing courses equivalent to high school courses in Japan.

High School Scholarship 

 Each prefecture provides scholarship loans to cover high school tuition. Requirement, procedure, and the amount differ, depending on the prefecture. For further details, please contact the prefectural office of your current address.
