On May 13 2016, the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT), the Cabinet Office (CAO) and the Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) jointly concluded a cooperation document with the Space Agency of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in the field of space.

At the signing ceremony, the cooperation document was signed by MEXT State Minister Tsutomu Tomioka, CAO Parliamentary Vice-Minister Yasuyuki Sakai, METI State Minister Yosuke Takagi, and the H.E Dr. Khalifa Mohammed Thani Al-Romaithi, Chairman, Space Agency, UAE.

The cooperation document affirms that MEXT, CAO, METI and the UAE Space Agency will promote the exchange and collaborations in research and development, human capital development, and development of industries related to space.
