Statement by the MEXT Minister
Tuesday, December 20, 2011

On December 17th, I attended a commemoration ceremony held in Kyoto for the Hayabusa asteroid explorer’s recognition by the Guinness Book of World Records. After being awarded with a certificate and souvenir, I had the opportunity to personally present these over to Professor Kawaguchi.
The event was held as a part of the 2011 Science and Technology FESTA in Kyoto. It gave me the chance to encourage young people attending the festival to continue persevering the challenges they face with a strong resolve, to never fear failure, and to keep holding on to their dreams just like we witnessed with the Hayabusa project team. Through taking such steps, this will ultimately enrich their lives and empower them to live life to its fullest.
