CHAPTER 2  THE FORMATION OF THE MODERN EDUCATIONAL SYSTEM
5  Education during the Period of the Education Orders
  (1) The Enforcement of the 1879 Education Order
  b. Changes in the Structure of the Department of Education

The structure of the Department of Education was generally revised in March, 1880, and new bureaus were established, replacing the previous divisions, to deal with government education, local education, accounting, editing and reporting. In October the Research Division was set up. Prior to these changes, the Archives Office and the Music Research Section were established in 1877 and in 1879, respectively. Later, in October, 1881, the structure was revised again largely so that the Department consisted of the Bureaus of Higher Education, General Education, Editing, Accounting, General Affairs and Reporting, the Divisions of Archives and Research, and the Music Research Section.
