Working with top rank researchers and gathering the latest scientific information enable Japan to yield world-class outcomes, which are expected to resolve global problems. Therefore, internationalization of our Science and Technology environments is recognized as an essential mission.
For this purpose, the Ministry of Education,Culture,Sports,Science, and Technology uses the Special Coordination Fund for Promoting Science and Technology to carry out the"Leadership for International Scientific Cooperation"program to promote the convening of international conferences and forums where Japan needs to demonstrate an active contribution, and other related activities such as international surveys and research, for the purposes of demonstrating Japan's leadership in international scientific and technological activities, and of creating sustainable cooperative relation-ships in the international community.
In addition,an array of international cooperative projects are carried out through various programs. For example, the Japan Science and Technology Corporation(JST)conducts the"International Co-operative Research Project"(ICORP)in cooperation with research institutions in a number of foreign countries, while the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science(JSPS)promotes inter-national cooperative projects with Asian countries through"Core University Program".
