The research supporters are important factors in developing an appealing research environment. They are playing important roles in research work in that in addition to their technical support, they perform support in routine work, and make substantial contribution in way of increasing the efficiency of research work, activating researchers, and utilizing research achievement.

In Japan, the number of such research supporters per researcher is less than a half the level of selected countries, and that, it is on the decrease year by year.

In order to enhance the research support in the future, we need to promote the positive utilization of research supporting services by the use of the indirect costs that will be appropriated out of the competitive funds acquired. Also, we must promote research-supporting services of more ease for use.
