1. Expansion of the New National Theatre


In FY1999, the New National Theatre put on 43 performances of nine different opera works, 23 performances of five ballet works, 12 performances of four modern dance pieces, and 162 performances of nine dramatic works, for a total of 240 performances of 27 different works. Also, five people were accepted for the second term of the opera training program designed for people aiming to become professional opera singers, and stage technicians from the People's Republic of China were accepted for training through the Program for Asian Cooperation in Modern Performing Arts, which accepts stage technicians from Asian countries for training.

In FY2000, it is estimated that, in terms of independent performances, there will be 54 performances of eleven different opera works, 27 performances of five ballet works, ten performances of four modern dance pieces, and 201 performances of ten dramatic works, for a total of 292 performances of 30 different works, and in terms of research creation, there will be 20 performances of four opera works and five performances of one ballet. Moreover, five people are to be accepted for the third term of the opera training program, and the Program for Asian Cooperation in Modern Performing Arts has continued uninterrupted from last year.
