In response to the rapid increase in the number of buried cultural properties which have been excavated as a result of recent development projects, the Agency for Cultural Affairs is considering the enrichment of the framework to study the excavation of buried cultural properties.
In terms of projects related to the protection of buried cultural properties, the Agency for Cultural Affairs holds nationwide traveling exhibitions of newly excavated archaeological artifacts entitled "Discoveries of the Japanese Archipelago (Brief Report on Newly Discovered Archaeological Artifacts)." Furthermore, a government grant has been provided for the construction of the Buried Cultural Property Center, which will be responsible for conducting studies of buried cultural properties and coordinating, storing, and exhibiting archaeological artifacts.
