4. Cultivation of Artists


The Agency for Cultural Affairs offers the Japanese Government Overseas Study Program for Artists, which provides young Japanese artists with opportunities to receive training overseas, as well as Arts Internships, which provide young Japanese artists with the opportunity for training at domestic institutions. In FY2000, 136 artists participated in the Japanese Government Overseas Study Program for Artists and 53 artists received an Arts Internship.

In addition, the Agency for Cultural Affairs organizes the Japanese Government Fellowship Program for Artists from Abroad, which invites young foreign artists wishing to study in Japan and provides them with opportunity for training and artistic exchange. During FY2000, 22 young artists from abroad will be invited.
