3. Organization of the National Arts Festival


The National Arts Festival is held with the aim of providing the greater public with opportunities to appreciate outstanding works of art from Japan and abroad, and to facilitate the creation and development of arts.

In FY2000, the National Arts Festival will open with the "Opera Gala Concert" and will include "Bluebeard's Castle," a National Arts Festival International Joint Performances with the Berlin German Opera, as well as "Hana Furu Hi-e: The World of Playwright Kuo Pao Kun" with the participation of artists from Singapore, India. etc. In addition, the National Arts Festival Grand Prize, the National Arts Festival Excellence Award, the National Arts Festival New Artist Award and the National Arts Festival Individual Broadcasting Award are presented to outstanding performances or works in the four divisions of drama, music, dance and entertainment as well as in the three divisions of television, radio, and recording.
