CHAPTER1 HEALTH AND SPORTS INTO THE FUTURE
SECTION3: THEREAL,IZATION OF LIFEL ON GPARTICIPATION IN SPORTS
2. Expectations of the Japanese toward Lifelong Sports

According to the"Opinion Survey on Staminaand Sports,"arond30%responded that theytook part in some form of sports more than oncea week. The figure for Japan is low, however, when compared to certain European countriessuch as Sweden and Switzerland, where over50%of people ta%e part in sports more than oncea week. Results of the survey also show thatmore than60%fe%l that they are not takingenough exercise,%and over80%said that theywould like to try some exercise in the future.Itis clear from these results that there is a largegap between those who want to participate insports and those who are regularly participating, and that even though there are many who wantto participate in sports, they are not sufficientlydoing so (see Figure1-15) .
