4. Development of Audiovisual Centers/Libraries


The activities of audiovisual centers/libraries include the collection and storage of audiovisual equipment and teaching materials for use in school education and social education, the production of audiovisual teaching materials, the training of audiovisual education specialists, and the implementation of various educational activities based on the use of audiovisual materials. As of January 1994 a total of 868 such facilities had been established throughout Japan. The Ministry of Education, Science and Culture provides subsidies to local governments to cover part of the construction cost of audiovisual centers/libraries.
