The Japan Society for the Promotion of Science has established the Advisory Committee on University-Industry Cooperation, Research Promotion Committees, and University-Industry Cooperative Research Committees to promote university-industry cooperation by leading researchers.
The society also provides support for international symposiums, which are implemented primarily by University-Industry Cooperative Research Committees.
Many foundations and other incorporated nonprofit organizations have been established primarily to provide grants for scientific research, including the provision of research grants for research costs and prizes. These organizations play an important role in the promotion of science. As of August 1994 there were 129 foundations and 29 charitable trusts providing grants for scientific research.
