2. Measures to Promote Environmental Education


The new Courses of Study emphasize the need to develop children into people who will respect nature and behave in ways that are appropriate from the viewpoint of protecting and improving the environment. The guidance content of each subject area is being enhanced, and the Ministry of Education, Science and Culture is implementing the following measures.

Preparation of teacher's reference materials: Fiscal 1990, preparation and distribution of materials for lower and upper secondary schools; fiscal 1991, preparation and distribution of materials for elementary schools; case studies currently under preparation
Designation of model municipalities for promotion of environmental education (10 municipalities)
Implementation of Environmental Education Fairs (fiscal 1994 onward)
Seminars for teachers in charge of environmental education (fiscal 1994 onward)
