Chapter 4 Culture Connects the World
2 Exchange and Cooperation for Art and Culture
1 Promotion of International Artistic and Cultural Activities
(1) Promotion of international exchange of artists

In order to promote international activities in the field of arts, the Agency for Cultural Affairs offers positive support to international projects carried out by artists and art organizations.

In the area of artist exchange, the "Overseas Training Program" sends artists from many respective fields for practical training abroad.

In the area of overseas exhibitions of Japanese performing arts, a program called the "Incentive Fund for Excellent Arts Activities" has been carried out in conjunction with private sponsors (including corporations) since1988. Under this program, representative Japanese performers participate infamous overseas arts festivals. In 1993, the Agency endeavored to enhance this project in order to continue the promotion of international art activities.

Another program being conducted by the Agency for Cultural Affairs for the purpose of contributing to the enrichment of the performing arts of both participating countries and to the promotion of mutual understanding is the Japan-U.S. Performing Arts Program, which sends Japanese modern performing artists to the United States.

To contribute to friendship with the Asian and Pacific countries, the Agency also invites representative folk performing arts troupes from these countries for National Arts Festival International Exchange Programs.
