This program, whose purpose is to provide young artists with opportunities to study and undergo training within Japan was established in1991 with the revision of the program "Artists' Domestic Study", which had been in effect since 1977. The new structure of this internship program was designed to provide a more effective study and training program by the Agency for Cultural Affairs, covering not only the cost of study at special training facilities but also that of independent study.
