PART 2 Recent Trends and Developments in Government Policies in Education, Science and Culture
Chapter 8. Promotion of Culture
4 Promotion of Local Cultural Activities

Local governments have realized that promoting cultural development is essential for continuing the distinctiveness of each community and therefore distinctive cultural programs are being supported. In light of this trend, the Agency for Cultural Affairs is implementing various measures for promoting local cultural activities, which include organizing National Culture Festivals, organizing national cultural festivals for upper secondary school students, conducting "special programs for promoting distinctive local cultural activities" and bringing outstanding performing arts in various localities. The Agency also subsidizes the construction of public facilities which are to serve as core facilities for local cultural activities.
