The age distribution of full-time teachers in local and private kindergartens, local elementary schools, local lower secondary schools and local and private upper secondary schools, observed by proportion and classified by age, for the total number of full-time teachers, is shown in (1)-(4), Chart 3-11. In 1974, the largest proportion was shown by the " below 24 " age group (at 48.6%) among local and private kindergarten teachers, by the "45-49" age group (at 2l.8%) among local elementary school teachers, the "4O-44 " age group (at 2l.0%) among local lower secondary school teachers, and the " 30-34" age group (at l9.0%) among local and private upper secondary school teachers. Of teachers in local elementary and lower secondary schools in particular, those in the forties account for about 40%.
Next, as to the age distribution of full-time teaching staff in universities and junior colleges, the largest proportion was shown in 1974 by those in the "30-34" age group (at 10.2%) among teachers in national and local universities, and by those in the " over 70 " age group among teachers in private universities, as shown in Chart 3-12. Among the teaching staff of private junior colleges, too, the proportion of those iu the " over 70" age group is phenomenally large.
