CHAPTER 1 EDUATIONAL POPULATION AND EDUCATIONAL OPPORTUNITY
4 Higher Education
(2) State of Admission and Application to Universities and Junior Colleges
e State of Applications, Classified by Field of Specialization in University

The state of applications in 1969 and 1974, classified by the field of specialization in universities (undergraduate courses), is shown in Chart 1-26.

It indicates that the extent of dispersion in the rate of competition for admission in 1974 is the largest in medical and dental courses and the smallest in agricultural courses. The average rate of competition for admission is the highest in medical and dental courses at 9.2 times.

Both the extent of dispersion and the average rate of competition for admission became smaller in 1974 than in 1969 in every field of specialization. This tendency is noticeable particularly in medical and dental courses.

The proportion of Ronin students to the total number of applicants in 1969 and 1974, classified by the field of specialization in universities, is shown in Chart 1-27. The proportion of Ronin students was the highest in both years in the medical and dental courses.
