CHAPTER 1. EXPANSION OF EDUCATIONALOPPORTUNITIES
7 Opportunities for Education and Training Other Than School Education
(2) Miscellaneous Schools

"Miscellaneous Schools" play an important role in providing the knowledge and techniques for occupations, home-making and general living which have become necessary with the changing times. Enrollments have been increasing yearly, reaching 1,410,000 in 1969, of which 1,O00,000 were women. Comparison of the enrollment distribution by course in 1950 1959 and 1969 shows that the proportion of males enrolled in clerical fields has sharply decreased, while the proportion in technical fields (industry, automobiles. medical technology, agriculture, etc.) has greatly increased. The proportion of women in the field of home economics has been decreasing, although it is still the highest, while the proportion in technical fields (hairdressing, nursing, teacher training. etc.) has increased remarkably.
