For university education in Japan, development of education in response to changing times and social demands is becoming more strongly desired. There are renewed and great expectations from society for universities to carry out responsible class management for and to give high added value to their students.
In this environment, the improvement of education contents and methods at universities is moving forward, with many universities carrying out measures that include curriculum review, innovations in the assessment of academic achievement and training aimed at improving teachers' educational functions (see Part I, Chapter 1 ).
