Section 1:   Present State of Learning and Academic Ability for the Future
1   Research on Curriculum

MESSC conducted research on curriculum from FY1997 to FY1999. The results of the research show that Japanese children are good at memorizing and have a well acquired ability for calculation and reading comprehension. On the other hand, the results point out that their learning is essentially passive with an insufficient ability to research a subject, analyze findings, reach a conclusion and express it in their own words.
